Irving Park is the one stop on this branch where the Blue Line and Metra sit side by side: the CTA station in the Kennedy median and the Union Pacific Northwest station on Irving Park Road, so a household with one Loop commute and one suburban commute can make it work from one address.
What it is like
The community area is bounded by the river on the east, the old Milwaukee Road tracks on the west, Addison on the south and Montrose on the north, and it is named for the author Washington Irving. Its historic core, Old Irving Park, has the most varied housing stock on the corridor: Queen Anne, Victorian and Italianate houses, a few surviving farmhouses, and rows of bungalows, on the land of two farms subdivided in the 1870s. California Park, on the river side, is understated single-family homes from the 1920s. Independence Park and Kilbourn Park round out the area.

Independence Park is the neighborhood's namesake park; Portage Park's 38 acres, pools and fieldhouse are a short ride west. Chicago Public Schools operates the public schools here, including the Kedvale campus of Disney II Magnet in Old Irving Park; Chicago Jewish Day School is also in the area.
