Cumberland: Park Ridge, Norridge and the O'Hare corridor

Cumberland is the stop suburban buyers use. It sits in the Kennedy median at Cumberland Avenue in the O'Hare community area's Schorsch Forest View neighborhood, close to Norwood Park, the city of Park Ridge and the village of Norridge, and it has 1,633 parking spaces, a bike room, and Greyhound and Burlington Trailways buses as well as CTA and Pace. It was rebuilt in 2016 and had 718,000 entries in 2025.

What it is like

Around the station the development is mixed: mid-rise condominium buildings and office towers on the O'Hare corridor side, single-family streets on the other. Park Ridge, a city of 39,656 people in the 2020 census, borders three Chicago community areas, Edison Park, Norwood Park and O'Hare, and was once called Brickton for the clay pits that supplied the growing city. Its center, Uptown, is around the Metra station at Summit and Touhy with the Pickwick Theatre. The top employer is Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Norridge is the village between Harlem and Cumberland south of the expressway.

Zillow Home Value Index for July 2026, the typical value of a middle-tier home: Park Ridge as a city $595,303 (+8.7% in a year); Norridge $422,893 (+6.7% in a year); the O'Hare community area of Chicago $238,351 (-1.4% in a year), the only figure on this corridor that fell in a year, and a condo-heavy market. Edison Park, across Harlem, is $483,782 (+7.8% in a year).

Getting around

Blue Line 24 hours a day with the park-and-ride. Park Ridge has two Metra stations on the Union Pacific Northwest line, Park Ridge and Dee Road; the Park Ridge station is 13.1 miles from Ogilvie and is met by Pace 209 and 290 and the CTA 68. The Kennedy, the Tri-State and I-190 to the airport all meet here.

Parks and schools

Park Ridge is served by Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 for elementary and middle school and by Maine Township High School District 207; Maine South High School opened in 1964 at Dee Road and Talcott. In the Chicago portion, the zoned K-8 school is Dirksen and the high school is Taft; Wright College is in neighboring Dunning and DePaul has a satellite campus in the O'Hare area.
